Tempered in Truth

My mind is enshrouded with billowing clouds of confusion; a fog so dense, no path is revealed, not a single step forward can be made.
Weariness numbly coats my heart, its desperate beat walls me in to the world around me.
Mental fingers grasp at faint images of truth, which pass through their gaps like grains of sand.
I cry out “Son of David, have mercy on me! Set me on Your path; let each step be dedicated to Your name!”
…
Though I cannot see You,
I know You are here!
Though I cannot feel You,
I know You are here!
Though I cannot hear You,
I know You are here!
I know what You have said: no matter where I rest my head, You are there with me, even to the end of the age. And though my cries fall flatly on the wall of shadow and smoke around me, I know my voice is in Your ears- my deliverance in Your mighty hands.
But where are you Mighty One?! For the black has choked out my voice, and I can no longer call out to You.
…
The lightning itself reports to You and You beckon it to my aid-
A flash of light tears
through me- its terrible
column searing false
edges from my mind.
The vaporizing heat at
its core tempers the
foundation of my heart
as hard as steel, as
immovable as Your truth.
Bid me come onto the water, and I will step into the storm.
I am guarded by Your peace,
emboldened by Your truth,
set free by Your love.
Fog dispersed, coiling back
into its hidden corners, and I
stand isolated, but never alone.
I turn my face to the hill at my back,
it’s greenery blackened out by the
hoard of enemies trampling it underfoot.
Your Holy roar wells up
inside me and bursts out
in terrible fury,
“There is no number I will yield to!
No manner of foe that will slow the swing of my sword!
For I come to you in the name of the Living God!“
I can do nothing apart from You, Holy Lord my God.
You are my Rock and my Redeemer.
You always come and find me. You always come to my aid.
With You alone, and in You alone is all victory.
I praise Your Holy Name; You are worthy of all praise!
The battle belongs to You.
“Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, “If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.”
John 8:31-32, 36 NKJV
